Everyone knows that it is difficult to lose weight once it has been put on.  The old saying rings true “A taste on the lips stays forever on the hips!”  With today’s busy lifestyle it is hard to know what to put into each meal, especially for the busy housewife or househusband bringing up a family.

If members of your family are fussy eaters you might find yourself eating food from their plates too or throwing it away.  There is little time to plan ahead and sit together round the dinning room table, so food is generally rushed and “on the go”. However, there is a great way to make life a little easier with smoothie blenders.

Smoothies are quick to prepare and may contain only the most natural of ingredients – it is up to you.  They can greatly help towards weight loss and encourage a healthy lifestyle without draining you of your time or effort.  You can even drink them as food “on the go” too!

Can drinking  Smoothies help me lose weight?
Smoothies are made up of fruit or a mixture of fruit and vegetables.  These are cut up and put into the blender raw so all the nutrients, vitamins and minerals remain in the smoothie.

This is a real aid to a calorie controlled diet as a recipe may contain hardly any fat!  When we eat raw fruit and vegetables, chewing releases the nutrients which our bodies absorb.  If it is difficult to eat raw fruit, putting the chopped  raw fruit and vegetables into a smoothie blender does the hard work for you!

Is there a difference between juicing and blending?
Extract the juice from a fruit it may lose some of its goodness by leaving the more fleshy part -  the fibre – behind, so you will not actually be taking in all of the nutrients. When blending the fruit in a smoothie all the pulp will be included, consequently blending contains more fibre.  It is this fibre that leaves you feeling fuller for longer so by just taking one Smoothie drink, so you can use it as a healthy alternative to a meal!

Smoothies are excellent for reducing sugar cravings as fibre contains nutrients and the natural sugars from the fruit that are released over a period of time, so blood sugar levels are helped to remain constant and give less craving for sugar.

Which fruit and vegetables to use?
Any type of fresh fruit and vegetables work well in a smoothie blender, but the best ones that can help boost your immune system and give you all the nutrients and vitamins you need to help your weight lossprogram. These are:

Bananas
Pineapple
Raspberries
Strawberries
Blueberries
Mangoes
Peaches

If you want a smoother smoothie drink then you can use frozen fruit.  Green leafy vegetables also blend very well with fruit and will give you an extremely healthy drink containing enzymes, minerals and vitamins.

A smoothie may contain antioxidants, beta-carotene, calcium, folic acid, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, vitamins A, B, C and E and zinc.  So these will help aid to your weight loss and help keep you healthy by improving your energy levels,  your digestive system and keeping you mentally alert.

Smoothies and Stress
If you are under a lot of stress it is better to drink a smoothie because the  liquids and nutrients travel straight from the digestive area into the bloodstream making the process easier for the digestive system.

As an IBS sufferer I know that if rushing solid food, especially when stressed, can lead to digestive discomfort. You can be sure that having a Smoothie at least once daily, can be a real aid to your physical and mental healthy wellbeing.

You have nothing to loose except weight and everything to gain, mainly your health!
